Hamred Chungani - Outgoing Treasurer
Having been in the role, describe the role in your own words.
My role was such a surplus in my life. It added alot of value to me since it is my area of expertise. Having a background in finance and banking, this role exposed me more and thus enabled my growth immensely.( Treasury)
What initially drew you to take up the role?
My passion for finance and accounting. Also really to positively change around the treasury department.
What were the challenges you faced while in office?
I inherited an office that had a burden of debts. Also, I had challenges in money transactions since am not one of the signatories. Changing signatories has been a problem till now.
How did you manage to keep a balance between work and Toastmaster leadership? Did you experience club officer burnout?
It's all about time management, dedication and commitment. And yes, I did experience burn out on several occasions.
Any lessons learnt while in office?
Major lesson I learnt is that we all have to work as a team.
No position is lesser than the other.
Unity is strength.
Advise to your successor?
My successor should remain committed. Treasury is a very sensitive docket. Finances run the club so let him take matters seriously especially when it comes to renewals since this determines members retention.
Now that you are done with your tenure, where to next in your Toastmaster Leadership journey?
I really want to focus on finishing my pathways program. Later on I could consider leadership at district or international level.
